GKQuestion: Which is the new capital of Andhra Pradesh?

Answer: Visakhapatnam will be made the new capital of Andhra Pradesh

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced on 31 January 2023 that Visakhapatnam will be the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. Earlier, three options were considered for the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. These included Kurnool and the present capital Amaravati.

Visakhapatnam is the largest and most populous city of Andhra Pradesh. It is the second largest city on the east coast of India after Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. After the bifurcation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the year 2014, the new state got Hyderabad as its capital.

The Andhra government under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu made Amaravati the new capital in the year 2015. Then in 2020, the state planned to have three capital cities – Visakhapatnam for the executive, Amaravati for the legislature and Kurnool for the judiciary.

Mr Reddy’s party alleges that some people, who were informed in advance about the location of the new capital, bought land there to benefit from the impending boom. In a representation to the Centre, the state government said that over 4,000 acres of land was bought by such people in 2014. Source: Social Media
